How to Update My Ilok to Work for Protools Again

iLok Activations Suddenly Disappeared, SOLVED for mac

So last night I updated from Pro Tools 10.3.5 to 10.3.6.
Ran 10.3.6 for a little bit and everything was fine.

Started up PT this morning and got the famous:
"Error, missing iLok authorization for "Pro Tools 10".
Please insert the necessary iLok and restart Pro Tools."

I opened the iLok manager, signed in, inserted my iLok2 (blue light on solid), and the manager software reported that my iLok2 was 100% full, and that there were zero licenses activated on it. Also, if i removed my iLok, the manager still recognized it as plugged in.

Through iLok.com, I could see my iLok2 and it also reported zero activations.

TO FIX:

  1. Remove iLok from computer.
  2. Download the iLok manager installer from iLok.com.
  3. Open it and run the uninstaller to get rid of the license manager software.
  4. Go to your main drive ("Macintosh HD" for most) > Library > Application Support. There you will find a folder called "PACE Anti-Piracy." Trash that folder.
  5. Go to your user name home folder > Library* > Preferences. Scroll near to the bottom to find two preference files named "com.paceap.iLokLicenseManager.plist" and "com.paceap.iLokLicenseManager.plist.lockfile." Trash them both.
  6. Reinstall iLok manager software.
  7. Sign in.
  8. Insert iLok.
  9. Double click on iLok in left-hand column to open iLok details pane.
  10. Click "Sync/Repair"

Your iLok should then replenish itself with your previously activated licenses.

*I believe in both OSX Lion and Mountain Lion, the Library folder in the user Home folder is hidden. You may access it from the finder "Go" menu by clicking on the "Go" menu and holding down the "option" key. To permanently unhide your Library folder, open terminal and enter:
chflags nohidden /Users/<User Name>/Library
Change <User Name> to the same title as your home folder (same as your user account name).

Thanks very much DrDranim...drove me mad for a few days now and this worked! only difference was I only found one preference file 'com.paceap.eden.clientdb.v1.01.sdb' which I trashed. After following all your steps i'm back up and running. Must've sent 5 support tickets to ilok...panic. Anyway thanks again..great relief

I knew I wouldn't be the only one. Glad I could help!
I'd be interested in knowing if you only have to trash the preference files (leaving the "PACE Anti-Piracy" folder alone), or if you have to trash both the preferences files AND the PACE folder.
I just deleted everything iLok associated and crossed my fingers hoping it would work.

Yes - I had exactly the same issue......

I just inadvertently installed the new ilok license manager. Suddenly NOTHING WORKED

I couldn't open ProTools. In Cubase, none of my plugins that require ilok authorisation would work. Basically none of my DAWs would see my ilok.

The solution - on the iLok License manager - right click on the iLok name that appears in the list on the left. Select "sync/repair". And then everything will work again.

Wow that was stressful!!

Same issue here. "No ilok could be found" after I installed PT10.3.6 and PT11 on a macbook pro mid 2012. The ilok manager told me that there were no licenses on my ilok and that it was also %100 full. So I tried to sync/repair and got an unexpected error. I tried to drag the license on and got the same thing.

So I
1) uninstalled and deleted preferences out of both the user and main libraries (com.pace....), emptied trash, restarted.

2) Installed the ilok software again and tried to open it, same problem. Did this twice... So I repeated step 1 and restarted immediately before opening it.

3) Opened up the program with no iloks plugged in, logged in and waited until it was done. Plugged in the ilok and waited until it was done syncing. Then dragged the licenses back over from the "Available" tab on to the ilok. Copied back on, no errors.

Pro Tools now Launches. I'm assuming because of the restart after installing. The old driver used to make you log out after installation, so I thought I'd try to go the way the old one worked.

Error missing ilok authorization for pro-tools express

I keep receiving this error code below. Ive tried resynching/repairing and that does not work. It also shows that my code has been activated on my ilok account.

Error, missing iLok authorization for "Pro Tools Express". Please insert the necessary iLok and restart Pro Tools Express.

I tried looking up for technical support, but they claim i need to pay for a ticket to resolve it. Pretty frustrated as I just bought this tonight.

My software is OSX10.8.4 8gb 1600 mhz ddr3
2.9 GHZ

If anyone has an answer or a solution from Avid I would greatly appreciate it!

Have you tried dragging the license from the "Available" licenses area in iLok License Manager to a connected iLok V2?

Like everybody else who has posted on this thread, I found the solution here after my heart leaping out of my chest from stress.

To the OP: THANK. YOU. SO. MUCH.

And thank God for gearslutz!

PS: Since I see the OP lives just up the road in Santa Rosa, he's free to PM me for a beer from Russian River as a token of my gratitude

I have done all this steps with no luck.

The license was working fine.

Anyone have more ideas?

I have the same problem with my iLok on my mac mini (OS X 10.8.4 with an aftermarket SSD drive). The iLok seems fine but the software won't run. It used to work fine, but has since stopped.

Error screenshot

I have 3 licenses on there. Eventide Blackhole, Eventide H3000 factory and Pro Tools Express.

I run Cubase 5.5 off my elicenser and have had no issues with that, so it shouldn't be a USB issue on the mac.

I can't get any of them to work. I tried the method from the first post with no results (removing the license manager and reinstalling it), tried sync/repair on the ilok, tried removing the licenses from the ilok and putting them back. I even reset the PRAM on the mac. Moving the licenses to my ilok account and back to the ilok worked without any apparent issues.

I don't really know what else to do to get it working. Has anyone else had success with another method?

EDIT:
Well, after going around in circles for a bit, I think I finally have it fixed. I uninstalled PT Express and then did the registration thing again with the authorization code. This time some different licenses appeared in my ilok account. I guess the ones I had before were preloaded on the ilok. I transferred them over and reinstalled. Now it's working properly again.

I bought PT10 through license transfer two months ago, and everything run great. This morning I downloaded Slate Buss Compressors demo and put the license on iLok key. When I tried to open PT10 it says "Error, missing iLok authorization...". I opened Ilok License Manager and I realized that license for PT10 is no longer on my iLok key, neither on my iLok account. I tried everything, clean reinstalling ILM, and iLok works fine (that Slate license is working normal, with Logic Pro), but the other one license for ProTools is gone! I tried installing ILM on other computer (laptop with Win XP) and same thing happens, there is no ProTools anywhere.
When I deactivate Slate Buss Compressor license from iLok key, the key is empty (i had only these two licenses), but iLok says that "memory usage is 1%". Is this normal for empty iLok key, or you think that there is PT license somewhere hidden? I don't know what and how to think anymore...

If someone has some solution, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

Call to the buyer, and ask him if the license is his iLok again, another thing is make support a ticket to iLok, You receive an email with the deposit of the asset in your account. At the end call Avid.

Wow, I know this is old hat. But I'm going nuts here.. I've tried running the fix above but to no avail.

I got a new iLok2 but haven't been able to get it to work. I've opened a support ticket for it, and am probably driving the tech sup guy nuts -he should be use to it by now...

This symptoms are the same:
my iLok is plugged in, lit up, and is recognized by the manager. However, I'm showing zero activations. When I load my daw, it goes through the plug search and tries to load the plug that I have (and paid for), but I then get routed to the iLok manager.

Basically, is shuts down and tells me to try again later every time i attempt a sync/repair.

iLok tech sup told me to take a screen shot and send it to them; did that. They eventually gave me an RMA, and told me it was broken; with a new one arriving in the mail -which it did. However, I'm having the same problem. No, it's not my USB ports -they work fine with anything i plug into them (I get the same error on both) so it's pretty unlikely.

When i ran my daw, i did get the error:

License server error: UnexpectedException
Error message is: Couldn't open an iLok due to a USB error.
Caused by: Error setting a configuration for the USB device.

So I'm guessing it's something with my configuration on their end. Has anyone been here? Man, this is BS. Talk about playing gatekeeper. Has anyone here actually talked on the phone with these guys??!! If they could hand-hold me through every step, I'd feel a lot better, but we keep playing this back-and forth, message in a bottle bullshit...

Hi,

I just experienced the same s***. I stayed away from the new Ilok manager as long as I could and yesterday I had to install it (properly, carefully following the instructions they provide on their website) and today I tried to launch Pro Fools and got the same error. It's been solved using your post and I'm writing to say a HUGE THANK YOU!

I still can't believe THIS is still happening. Are they willing us to use cracks??

Anyway, thanx a lot and happy New Year to everyone.

Hi,
I just updated my Waves to 9.2r15 today and this error happened immediately afterwards.
Even though Waves is no longer using iLok2 for their licenses, but their cloud service.
Using Mac Pro OSX 10.6.8, Pro Tools 10.3.8 HD.

YOUR FIX SOLVED IT.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Cheers!!!

Thanks to the guys at Sweetwater sound for posting a video on the subject...

I know this is an old post but I've been having issues with my ilok that are driving me mad and I've been searching the internet for solutions or advice and came accords this post.

Basically, I've had an ilok for about five years and have around 40-50 licenses on there. I was using it fine for a good few weeks whilst writing some music for a client when one morning, when I loaded up the session to continue working on it, I got an error message from my East West software saying that my license was either expired or missing. I tried using other plug-ins that have licenses on my ilok but none of them would load and I get a license error message for each one.

I've since checked my ilok in the license manager and it's acting very strange. When I open license manager before I sign in the page looks like this

http://files.cargocollective.com/533...se_Manager.jpg

I'm not really sure what the nuendo pane is doing there. I have a couple of trial licenses on my macbook but I though they were dealt with in elicense control.

Anyway, when I sign in I get this

http://files.cargocollective.com/533..._Manager-2.jpg

When I plug my ilok in it activates another account rather than my own ilok

http://files.cargocollective.com/533..._Manager-3.jpg

I try to move one of the licenses from the mysterious nuendo ilok but it tells me it is owned by another user. I try to access my own ilok or sync it but it tells that my ilok isn't connected even though it's the one I have just connected. So for some reason my ilok is acting like it is a completely different ilok than the one I own. I definitely haven't switched iloks with someone by mistake cos I have been using it for the past few weeks and it hasn't left my home studio. It just started playing up one morning and now this is happening.

So I've tried the solution that the OP suggested on this thread but I am still having the same issues. I posted this in another thread but after reading this thread I thought there may be some you you who have had similar problems to me that might be able to offer some advice.

Any advice will be really appreciated as I am totally stumped with this one.

Short answer, submit a ticket support to iLok they will resolve the problem. they are very helpull, at least to me they always were.

:( i know your pain
Cheers

And...happening again here out of no where. Actually right after a TLC refresh, MOST of my plugins are missing authorization codes. Stopped me dead in my tracks working on a mixing project yesterday. Sent support an email but nothing yet today. Going to try the above suggestions. If that doesn't work, plan B
